Agency head given $182,000 to leave

Aiming to part ways amicably, Miami Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Dana Nottingham has agreed to terms with the agency's board of directors on a six-figure severance package.

Nottingham announced his plans to step aside last month, amid a critical audit and complaints from some that the agency had done little to spur a downtown revival.

The downtown authority is calling his exit a ''mutual termination and separation agreement'' -- not a resignation.

His parting payment: $181,912, or roughly one year's annual salary.

''The board felt that it was in the best interest of the DDA to cut ties and continue,'' said Miami City Commissioner Joe Sanchez, who chairs the semi-independent city agency. Sanchez was not part of the board when Nottingham was hired in 2003.
