| Cliff death still a mystery
HIS death after a 60ft cliff fall is a mystery which may never be solved. But his family believe caring Keith Hudson may have lost his life as he went to help a friend threatening to jump. The community support worker for learning disabilities charity Mencap was found dead on rocks after a fall from Old Hartley cliff face, at Seaton Sluice, Northumberland. A woman friend, who Keith had known for about six years, also plunged from the cliff but was found alive, though barely conscious, near his body. His distraught parents, Isobel and Keith senior, sister Janice and uncle and aunt Gordon and Helen Wood, firmly believe suicide was not on his mind. By an ironic twist of fate Keith, 41, of Hunter Avenue, Blyth, may have been there to help a distressed friend who was threatening to jump.

Loblaw tries to weed out bad apples
An array of witty and intellectual comments. Thank you all. Kim Huynh, I am sorry but your comment about Walmart is hilarious! Have you been reading the news recently? Walmart (although making money still) has been struggling. They have lousy relationships with most suppliers, facing cost increases and have always had a reputation for treating staff poorly. You want to send Loblaws management somewhere? Send them to Lowes, Target or Costco to learn a few things. Posted 19/02/08 at 12:40 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

UNICEF report: Infant mortality rates still high
Nearly 10 million children under five died worldwide in 2006, according to a new report. That is a daily rate of 26,000 deaths. The United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) has used the latest data available (2006) on the under-five mortality rate for every country in the world. The rate is expressed as the number of children dying before their fifth birthday per 1,000 live births. Of the 10 million, 4 million die within the first month of life, half of these within the first 24 hours. Many of these deaths are related to the lack of adequate medical and nursing intervention at the time of birth. The report notes that half a million women a year die in childbirth. The mortality rate is a result of various factors, such as nutrition, availability of safe water, child and maternal services available, the availability of medication and immunisation.

January 2, 2006: Here's one I remember very well! Several twisters spun up early on this afternoon. Two of those found the ground in Adair County near Columbia, where one took out a mobile home and unroofed a house. Over in Lincoln County to the east, two people were injured by another tornado late that afternoon. Now we wait and see if what happened in Park City Thursday is added to the above list. **All the above data courtesy of the Louisville National Weather Service.** SH The Top Weather Events of '07 (Updated 12/28/07) Should old weather happenings be forgot and never brought to mind? Ha! In my world, the answer is an emphatic NO!! They should be remembered--and ranked--for these were the events that helped characterize 2007.
