NHF: 'Work or lose home' scheme would be unfair and impossible to ...

The National Housing Federation, which represents England's housing associations, says that a 'work or lose your home' policy for social housing tenants would be unfair and impossible to enforce. Chief executive of the National Housing Federation David Orr said: "Efforts to help social housing tenants into work are very welcome. But threatening tenants with the loss of their home is absolutely the wrong way to go about it. "Such a policy would be unfair and impossible to enforce. Many of the jobs open to people, especially at the lower skills end, are insecure or temporary. Also, people with health problems, such as mental health issues may find there are periods when they cannot keep up their job. "Instead of taking a punitive approach, the Government should build upon the successful employment schemes already being run by housing associations around the country.

Let us invest in health education - Yamson

Accra, Nov. 18, GNA - Mr Ishmael Yamson, Chairman of University of Ghana Council has called on corporate institutions and organisations to invest in health education to ensure the development of the required human resource base for quality health care delivery in the country. He noted that knowledge acquired by health personnel would save the lives of many Ghanaians. Mr Yamson made the call at a fund-raising dinner and awards night organised by College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana in Accra at the weekend. It was to support its Post Graduate Endowment Fund and reward individuals, institutions and organisations that had contributed to the fund. Mr Yamson said most corporate institutions and organisations, used most of their funds to support beauty pageants and it would be appropriate to channel these funds in health education.

Women turn on ‘traitor’ Oprah Winfrey for backing Barack Obama

She also has very little experience on her own. She also has a habit of shooting off her mouth and alienating people, which would not be a good thing when dealing with other countries at all. I believe Oprah considered all of this and made a more informed decision. If only more voters could do the same thing America would be a lot better off.

Campaign promises not inflationary: PM

Mr Howard acknowledged higher inflation puts upward pressure on interest rates but said factors such as drought and high oil prices, not government spending on tax cuts, were to blame for inflationary pressures in the economy.

"Interest rates are always driven by inflation but you have to look at what the reasons for higher inflation are," Mr Howard told ABC Radio.

"One of the reasons is that we've had a severe drought and that's affected food prices and it's affected electricity prices.

"It's not just influenced by public spending. It is also influenced by the strength of the economy."

The Australian economy was still strong and the government had an obligation to return tax cuts where it could, he said.

"We are going to be left with a very big budget surplus," Mr Howard later told journalists outside Our Lady of the Way primary school in Petrie.

We were always in with a chance

Any person, club, organisation or whatever be it in sport or business plays the game to WIN, otherwise why bother. The reason for no relegation this year is that super league franchises are up for grabs next season and if any club does not meet or exceed the franchise criteria they will be out on their ear regardless of where they finish in the table. Clubs who do not reach the minimum criteria off the pitch, note off the pitch, have everything to lose. This means they have to operate as a viable business entity with correct business development plans in place, suitable and safe stadia, local development systems in operation and community programmes established. This has taken a long time to come but in my opinion this takes RL to the next level. Still behind our friends in Oz but this is a positive step in the right direction.
